Israel was celebrating Succoth. During the seven days of the “feast of booths” 70 bulls would have been sacrificed as intercession. One bull for each of the seventy nations. His house, after all was always meant to be a House of prayer for all nations! He always meant to include the Gentiles in His plan. But it had to be executed step by step. Line upon line, the building of His house one stone at a time. Jesus, the Son, always there, the Word, the Cornerstone.
Parable: A king throws a feast for his guests, who are his sons, for a set number of days. When the time comes for them to leave, the king asks them to stay for just one more day, as it is difficult for him to say goodbye.
Connection to Sukkot: The seven days of Sukkot represent a universal holiday, but the eighth day, Shemini Atzeret, is seen as a special day for God to celebrate with the Jewish people.
Meaning: Shemini Atzeret is a day when the Jewish people “tarry” or stay with God, celebrating a special relationship that is a continuation of the Sukkot feast. It signifies a unique and intimate connection between God and Israel.
Some might try to say the church is the new, true Israel. “Replacement theology” in other words. This is a doctrine of demons. If the Lord God were to reject Israel in favour of the “church” He would deny Himself. He says directly that the sun and moon would have to pass away before His covenant would be made null. Jeremiah 31:36
We have not replaced His covenant people.
By His mercy and grace He has invited us to join the household. Jew and Gentile together. His bride.
He has longed for the last feast day for all time.
In the meantime He is ALWAYS inviting us to tarry with Him.
This day is also called, the Stop and the Pause. It is about putting our relationship with Him first.
Nothing else matters.
It is my pleasure to add here that my book will be coming out soon. It is ALL about Him and His desire to be our God. I am adding here a promo ebook sample.
